I'm in Albuquerque, NM, and will be here until 9 October.
First things first: shameless photo fun with my dad's dental school specimen skull. Fans of Hamlet and Sherlock, this will appeal to you.

My grandparents fly in today from Pennsylvania, so Dad and I will be going to the airport around 2 PM to collect them. We're all out here for the big hot-air balloon festival, which kicks off in a couple of days, as I understand it. Well, actually, I'm here to see my grandfather, because he didn't make it to England in July when the rest of them visited me. But, no, I'm also here because I want to have a look at some of the amazing handmade pueblo pottery to be had in (expensive) abundance.

I hope to get some writing done. I've had more new poems emerge in the past few weeks than I've had all year so far, so I'm optimistic. And the sun. I need it.

Is this your first time in Albuquerque? If so, don't miss a trip to Sadie's (extremely good Northern New Mexican food at reasonable prices). Also -- if you have a chance to take a day trip to Santa Fe, you might find pueblo pottery at less jaw-dropping prices. Check out the Palace of the Governors: native American craftspeople sell their own work outside.

I've been in NM twice before this, but never in Albuquerque before. As for Santa Fe, we do plan on taking a drive out there next week :)
