I missed the Oscars? Rats.

I'm glad that Sean Penn won Best Actor, and, well, I think Best Supporting was a no-brainer (congrats to both). I'm also pleased about Milk winning Best Original Screenplay, although I admit that I was desperately hoping it would win Best Picture. I saw it and Slumdog Millionare within two weeks of each other, and what I noticed most was how, although Slumdog was visually arresting and the music was gorgeous, it just didn't grab me by the heart in quite the same way. The characters felt a bit more hollow. But Danny Boyle winning Best Director, I heartily approve of.

I'm pretty much right with you on the Best Picture win ... though I do think that Slumdog was a really interesting, new take on the unrequited love story.

In other news, IAMSOTIRED. :(

It was interesting, yes. It just didn't have the heart that I thought it would; that's really the only way I can explain it. Milk had so much heart that I almost couldn't take it. It's probably my new favorite film!

I haven't seen Milk yet, to my annoyance. In fact, Slumdog is the only Oscar film I've seen to date, and I absolutely adored it. Mostly because it was narratively fascinating, and I loved the twist on the love story and the music was fabulous, as was the cinematography. But I definitely mean to catch up on the rest, particularly Milk, as I've heard nothing but good things.

These two, plus Dark Knight, are the only two nominated/winning films I've seen, too. Well, and Wall-E.
