One of my sisters [tjandersonfamily.blogspot.com] tagged me on this.

1. Where did you meet your partner?

In my M.A. program here at University of York (2005-2006 academic year). At the time, I was coming out of some considerable upheaval back in Boston; I'd even sworn I'd be better off alone for a while. Goes to show you how important I thought it was, I suppose. I hadn't imagined I'd end up in a relationship so soon after the end of the previous one. It's not that I literally thought, Third time's a charm, but maybe it was a little bit like that. It's the third that can be quantified. There are various and sundry other affairs behind me that remained far more abstract.

2. How long did you date before you got married/seriously got together?

A year. A little over a year? I don't know. The lines are blurry, and I prefer it that way.

3. How long have you been married/committed?

Together for three years, married for two.

4. What does s/he do to surprise you?

He used to bring me a single white rose all the time when he'd meet me at the train station on my return from trips taken without him, although there had been a stretch of time (let's say a year or so) where he didn't really do that. When I got back from San Francisco, however, there he was at the station with a white rosebud.

5. What is her/his best feature?

Dark hair and dark eyes will do me in every time. That's not to say I haven't appreciated pale hair and eyes in another person, but my track record is skewed far more in the other direction.

6.What is your favorite quality in her/him?

James is patient. He'd never blow up at me for anything.

7. Does s/he have a nickname for you?

No, thank goodness! Endearing nicknames are usually highly emabarrassing.

8. What is her/his favorite food?

He loves miso soup and seasoned rice. However, he's more recently fond of Turkish food.

9. What is her/his favorite sport?

Neither of us follow sports. He's trained in medieval swordsmanship, though.

10. When and where did you first kiss?

Mmm. That's a secret. Sorry!

11. What is your favorite thing to do as a couple?

We like going out to eat. The nicer the restaurant, the better.

12. Do you have children?

No, and we're not likely to ever have them.

13. Does s/he have any hidden talents?

To most people, the swordsmanship comes as a surprise. Everybody knows about the singing. Actually, what surprises me is that he's pretty good with DIY tasks around the house. And he does all the cooking!

14. How old is s/he?

Twenty-six: eleven months younger than I am, to be exact.

15. Who said "I love you" first?

He did. And how. Yeah, I'm not forgetting that, either. I'll keep my secrets.

16. What is her/his favorite music?

Folk, Indian, Tibetan flute, and a lot of the same groups/vocalists that I listen to.

17. What do you admire most about her/him?

Probably the patience. I haven't got it.

18. What is her/his favorite color?

He doesn't have one.

19. Will s/he read this?

He reads everything I write. And I do mean everything.

20. People I tag:

Meh. Anybody who wants to do it will do it.

This is very sweet. And I love men who cook -- Justin brings me flowers every now and then, and I love them, but what I absolutely cannot get over is that every time I fly back to the UK for term, he cooks me a marvellous dinner the night before and usually has something delicious ready when I get back. This time it was soup because I'd been ill for three weeks.

I can cook a few things very well, but I'm not hugely creative in the kitchen when it comes to experimentation. That's his department.

I'm...competent when it comes to cooking. I don't starve when I'm on my own, but I don't especially enjoy the process, which I suspect has a lot to do with it. That being said, I'm always in charge of drinks.
