I feel much better.
Not just in the my-ribcage-doesn't-hurt-as-much sense, either. I forced myself to stay up till 8 PM last night, which permitted me to sleep from then until 6 AM solid. It's scary to think that the only time I ever get a truly good night's sleep is when something (usually travel) pushes me to a freakish extreme and I have no choice.

Last night, an acquaintance of mine, Kat, came here to my hotel, where we had dinner at the bar in Michael Mina downstairs. Now, I should preface that this is a four-star, incredibly posh restaurant at which a single savory entrée runs $20 and no cocktail is under about $14. Worth it? Oh, you bet. The crab-and-calamari dish with pepper broth was just outstanding, as was the mojito (geez, I hadn't had a real one in ages). As for Kat, her company is so delightful that I'm meeting up with her and a friend this evening at Jupiter's, which is apparently a brewery that serves good food at Downtown Berkeley on the BART. This city is remarkably easy to navigate.

My first conference session is at 3:30 PM. It's about transfers of power in the Middle Ages, or something like that. I persist in assuming I have no interviews, seeing as I heard nothing before I left and there are no messages waiting for me here.

five million gold stars to both feeling better and mistletoe.

er, and your card may seem rather lame. i was like 'how do i say YOU ARE EPIC WIN without saying that? also, xmas is really exhausting' but still! i scribbled something down and your card is in the mail!

<3 I mean, to be fair, I'm not sure I'm EPIC WIN at the moment, but I am having a nice vacation in spite of the lack of interviews. The weather's so nice out here!

*envies* it is currently pouring buckets here, which at least does have the benefit of washing away the snow and gravel...

Say hi to Jupiter's for me, and make sure to order pizza and one of the home-brewed beers!

Done and done. I loved the Honey Wheat Ale!

Oh yeah, that's a good one.

I'm so glad you're feeling better - and I look forward to vicarious MLA-ing too!

I've been remiss; I'm about two days behind on entries. Eep?
