...uh, wow. That was unexpected.

I had never heard of Tim Minchin previous to viewing the following video. This song made me cry as much as it made me laugh. I think it may be one of the loveliest Christmas songs I've ever heard.

So... you've not seen/heard this before? :

Actually, I found that about 15 minutes ago ;)

Minchin is ace. He's a friend of a friend...

How have you not heard of him??

I've been an avid devotee for several years and have seen him countless times...

You should watch Storm.

Tim Minchin is WONDERFUL!

We saw him in Sheffield last year in a tiny amphitheatre that only held about 200 people.
He is hilariously funny, true, but also he can play the FUCK out of a piano.
If you ever have a chance to see him, do so. He's Aussie but lives in London now.
:)

Actually, that's part of what I'm really digging. I love singer-pianists, as you well know.

Tim Minchin is GENIUS. You have so much to discover!

...I can barely listen to White Wine in the Sun, though, not since the first time I heard it. It makes me cry too much. Brilliant, but right now it pushes a few buttons in me that are best left alone (oh, weird metaphor).

Well, he's funny as hell and is also capable of evoking genuine emotion. I'm sold!

It's amazing how he can combine insane funniness with such striking profound moments.

Tim Minchin is AMAZING. I went looking for YouTube clips of him after I saw him do this on TV and was expecting just to find more silly songs - I ended up wibbling in front of my computer. Have you heard this one?

Whoa, should have paid more attention to your warning for tears! *wipes eyes* Amazing.

Yeah, it kind of hits you out of nowhere, doesn't it, when he shifts into the bridge section that addresses his baby daughter? OMG. Like, from there on out, I'm all wah!

Yesss. Ugh, just watched it again, still got misty! I'm going to have to seriously investigate this young man. THANK you for passing him on!

I never heard of him either before seeing/hearing that, but wow.

Watched this when Neil linked it. Am seriously thinking about getting iTunes just so I can buy it legally. I already rather liked him, but I am 100% in agreement with you: this is probably one of not only the loveliest, but also the most honest Christmas songs I've heard, which I think is what gets me.

Oh, btw, got your postcard last night, thank you! It's beautiful and has gone up on my corkboard.

Neil linked it? Huh. Figures!

*joins in the ridiculous crying-at-Tim-Minchin party*

Tim Minchin is a genius, isn't he? I really love him. You've seen Not Perfect, right? That one brings tears to my eyes, and I almost never cry at music.

Yeah, I saw that one yesterday. It didn't make me tear up, but it made me smile :)
